January 21, 2013 – Fond du Lac, WI – WISCAP member agency ADVOCAP received a community grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation to assist homeless individuals and families in Green Lake County with temporary emergency shelter through motel vouchers.
The homeless population includes persons who have recently lost their job, are leaving a violent relationship, have made poor choices, or are unable to keep up with their living expenses. Green Lake County does not have a traditional homeless shelter like those available in counties with a larger population base. Instead, vouchers provide emergency housing in local motels to homeless individuals or to families with children. Due to a change in the allocation formula, federal and state funding for Green Lake County homeless programs was cut by up to 60%.
Alliant Energy Foundation’s grant will provide much-needed shelter at a critical time of the year while clients work on an individualized plan that identifies and addresses their barriers to self-sufficiency. Clients will also receive support services such as budget counseling, life skills training and employment-related assistance.
The Alliant Energy Foundation was formed in order to help improve the quality of life, now and in the future, in the communities where Alliant Energy has a presence. The Foundation’s programs reflect Alliant Energy’s commitment to play an active role in the communities it serves and provide critical support to non-profit groups.
