Debunking Poverty Myths and Stereotypes

WISCAP member agency Couleecap has released its quarterly Community Concerns report. This quarter’s topic is “Debunking Poverty Myths and Stereotypes.”  In summary:

  • In Couleecap’s four-county service area, almost 29,000 people, including 8,600 children, live at or below the poverty line.
  • Poverty is the exhausting, unending, time-consuming struggle of juggling and just hoping to make ends meet with no end in sight. Poverty robs you of a sense of security and it destroys your self-esteem and your hope for the future. Continue reading

CAP Services Conducts Triennial Needs Assessment

CAP Services has deployed its triennial needs assessment survey; the WISCAP member agency is surveying residents of its five-county service area—Marquette, Outagamie, Portage, Waupaca and Waushara counties—to gather information to help plan future programs. The survey results will assist CAP staff and board members in setting programmatic priorities for the three year period beginning in 2014. Continue reading

NEWCAP Receives Governor’s Award for Excellence

Eloise Anderson, Secretary of the Department of Children and Families, presented the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Community Action to NEWCAP for its exemplary Rapid Re-Housing Project. NEWCAP was acclaimed for excellence in administering state and federal funds for homeless services on behalf of the northeastern part of Wisconsin. Northwest RSVP Receives Grant

April 5, 2013 – Superior, WI – Northwest RSVP, a program sponsored by WISCAP member agency Northwest Wisconsin Community Services Agency, Inc. (NWCSA), has been awarded a three-year grant from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) which will enable 336 volunteers to serve 48 different partnering agencies in the counties of Ashland, Bayfield and Iron. Lakeshore CAP Forms Business Incubator Program

CAP Services’ Work-n-Wheels Program Tops 100 Auto Loans

March 1, 2013 – Stevens Point, WI – Thanks to CAP Services’ Work-n-Wheels program, the dream of auto ownership has become a reality for Kimberly Bronk and 100 other drivers in Portage and Waupaca counties.

Because a dependable vehicle can be the difference between having a job and losing a job, the Work-n-Wheels program, funded through the state of Wisconsin and administered by the Department of Transportation, offers 0% interest loans to income-eligible individuals and families in Portage and Waupaca Counties.
