Westby, Wis. – Couleecap was one of seven statewide efforts selected to receive the Top Initiative award for 2014 from Wisconsin Rural Partners, Inc. The awards were presented by Wisconsin Rural Partners president Dennis Deery and award judging panel members at the Wisconsin Rural Summit on May 2, 2014.

Couleecap’s project in Rockland, Wisconsin with the Meadow Park Estates subdivision received the recognition. Working with the village, county and the state Couleecap created a collaborative effort which created 11 units of affordable housing. The project accomplished three goals. First, the project generated more than $2,000,000 in additional tax base for the village. Second, the project will attract approximately 50 new residents to Rockland. This equals more than an 8% growth in village population. Third, there is now a neighborhood where nothing existed before.

“This project involved public and private entities collaborating to tackle a complex situation. Each partner came to the table and worked to create a vibrant, family friendly neighborhood in place of tax foreclosed fields,” said Todd Mandel, Couleecap’s Community Development Director.
