WISCAP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Wisconsin Community Action Program Association (WISCAP), is the statewide association that supports and provides advocacy for their 18+ member Agencies spread out regionally across the state.   All members share a common purpose and focus to support and create economic self-sufficiency for the state’s low-income households, each within their local region.

Due to the planned retirement of our current Executive Director, we are now looking for a new leader than can be the advocate and influential leader our organization needs.  The primary focus and mission is to support and provide direction to the agency and member organizations in their mission to help people and communities become economically secure.  Our Executive Director’s role is to promote community action in Wisconsin to ensure compliance with public policy and program compliance.  This includes visible and continuous advocating for state legislative funding and educating Wisconsin policymakers and the public on poverty and poverty issues.  Part of this role is to also provide support, networking, and education to the member agencies on resource development and program management.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, political science or related fields and a minimum of 5-7 years of successful senior-level management experience.  This experience should include public sector work in community activism type programs, within non-profits or public welfare organizations.

Fund raising and grant writing experience very helpful in this role.  Also, must be able to work effectively with everyone in the Association, its partners and individuals of all racial, ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds.  To be successful in the role you must also understand poverty, the needs of low-income people and a commitment to the goals created by Community Action to help people leave poverty.  Previous experience with the political, legislative and governmental process and government funding for anti-poverty programs is required. Our Executive Director must be able to become a licensed Lobbyist in the State of Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board and able to travel occasionally as needed for state and national conferences and visits to member agencies.
