Leadership Development & Succession Planning

Description: Nonprofits across the region are facing a reality: more than 70% of executive directors plan to leave their roles in the next five years, yet fewer than 30% of nonprofits have a written succession plan in place. That gap puts missions and communities at risk.

This roundtable will give you practical tools and strategies to build leadership capacity and ensure continuity in your organization, no matter your size or budget.

Together, we’ll cover:

  • Spotting leadership potential early, even in staff who may not yet see themselves as leaders.
  • Low-cost ways to grow leaders at every level through stretch assignments, peer coaching, and mentoring.
  • Succession planning models that work for nonprofits of all sizes, from emergency backups to long-term strategies.
  • The board’s role in keeping leadership development and succession planning on track.
  • How to embed inclusion and access in your leadership pipeline.
  • Leverage AI to capture knowledge, streamline planning, and support leadership growth.

Tuesday, November 18th
Onboarding and Culture

Description: Onboarding is more than a checklist; it’s the first true imprint of your organization’s culture. And yet, most new hires don’t experience it that way. In fact, only 12% of employees strongly agree that their organization does a great job onboarding (Gallup).

For nonprofits, where resources are tight and roles are broad, thoughtful onboarding can be the difference between long-term engagement and early turnover.

In this session, we’ll explore how to transform onboarding into a culture-building opportunity; one that creates clarity, connection, and trust from the start.

Together, we will cover:

  • A Practical framework for strategic onboarding, even in lean teams
  • Ways to align onboarding with your mission, values, and equity goals
  • Simple, no-cost ways to build culture on purpose
  • Metrics you can use to track impact
  • How AI can help you lighten the lift

Whether you’re welcoming your first employee or your fiftieth, this conversation will help you turn onboarding into a valuable leadership tool.

Thursday, December 18th
Compensation & Benefits

Description: Many Wisconsin nonprofits and Community Action agencies struggle to keep pay and benefits competitive within tight contracts and limited Human Resources capacity. This session offers a practical roadmap for using credible market data, setting salary ranges, and making thoughtful decisions about benefits including non-traditional offering. We’ll focus on realistic steps smaller organizations can take now with time for questions and peer sharing.
